Abstract

Projectile motion and free fall which involves the concepts of displacement, velocity and acceleration are topics that Physics students often have difficulties in. This study aims at identifying the students' pre-conceptions and misconceptions about the velocity and acceleration of objects under free fall. A pre-test consisting of multiple choice questions was given to foundations students who had passed their o-level in science before the chapter was discussed in class. A post-test was then conducted at the end of the chapter. Results of pre-test showed the misconceptions students had about acceleration and velocity of an object under free fall. Post-tests results showed that some of the misconceptions were still not corrected even after instructions. © 2017 IEEE.
