Receiver-based routing techniques have the capability to perform the relay selection on the fly and hence are well adapted to fulfill the requirements of vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANET). However, a common issue in receiver-based routing is the unnecessary formation of multiple paths when contending nodes are out of wireless range of each other. In this paper, a receiver-based routing scheme is proposed to avoid the unwanted multipath formation issue. A forwarding zone with a predefined forwarding angle of 60° is used, whereas the waiting time criteria is set based on the geographic progress of the forwarding vehicle toward destination. The performance of the proposed scheme in terms of packet delivery ratio (PDR) and number of packets forwarded under two different scenarios is analyzed. Finally, performance analysis under real map scenario is planned as part of the future work. © 2018 IEEE.
