Abstract

In the wireless mobile communications the knowledge of the mobile speed and/or the mobile velocity is of great importance because it is very helpful in the development of the system management algorithms (i.e. the handoff algorithms). Furthermore, the angle of mobile motion is more helpful for developing these algorithms and also in the mobile unit (MU) tracking systems. The proposed scheme showed that in distributed antenna system (DAS), the speed of MU at any point can be estimated using Doppler frequency estimation. The angle at which MU is traveling with respect to angle zero is derived in terms of Doppler frequency at two nearby locations. A numerical examples and comparison with test angles results were shown the accuracy of the estimation scheme within the real systems range of values.
