Human knowledge and creativity is the cornerstone for software development. Creativity has recently been emphasized in software development. However there has not been enough research work addressing creativity of software engineers working in Global Software Development (GSD). The aim of this study is to provide a theoretical framework of creativity in the context of GSD. Using the methodology of literature survey, factors such as knowledge sharing, software engineering occupational stress and GSD communication barriers have been hypothesized to be effecting creativity directly or indirectly. At the end a theoretical framework of software developer's creativity has been presented. © 2011 IEEE.
