Increasing multimedia devices are also inviting numerous threats to the shared data. This shared data include confidential information regarding business, banking, personal data, and health related information. Insecurity of such important data should be controlled by applying cryptographic techniques. Several researchers contributed in the field by presenting different solutions. The contribution of the current paper is to provide a comprehensive study on the existing cryptographic algorithms like Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). It also compares differences between hardware and software perspectives of the ECC. The paper also proposes a novel scheme for the security of Internet of Things (IoT), based on the ECC. According to study, ECC has proved better authentication that aspires for designing a new security algorithm. © 2022 IEEE.
