Abstract

Utilization of carbon dioxide (CO2) as feedstock for photocatalytic fuel production is a win-win approach, in that it offers a potential solution to both global warming effects caused by gas and fossil fuel reserves depletion. Of particular interest is CO2 photoreduction to methanol using visible light irradiation, which has gained remarkable attention in the scientific community. In this chapter, various synthesis methods of photocatalysts, thermodynamics properties, and photoreactor types have been discussed in detail. Effects of different parameters such as light intensity, catalyst dosage, calcination, and reaction temperature that affect the photocatalysts performances are also highlighted. Finally, the future direction and outlook of converting CO2 to methanol through photocatalysis are discussed. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.
