Abstract

Since the year 2000, literature in English has been an indispensable component of the English syllabus of Malaysian secondary schools, through which learners are exposed to different genres of literature. Research nevertheless indicates that more could be done to make literature more enjoyable and interactive for learners. Multimedia is one such alternative to make literature more interesting for learners. This study will discuss Malaysian upper secondary students' preferences of the use of web-based multimedia applications for the learning of literature. Students' responses gained via questionnaires are discussed in the paper to give educators a foretaste of the potential of multimedia towards enhancing and developing student interest in learning literature. Implications of the use of multimedia in the upper secondary literature classroom are also discussed in the paper.
