As such, this study focuses on developing an oil sorption material capable of removing oil efficiently from water. Electrospinning technique was employed to create biomimetic nanofibers containing carbon nanotube/Arthrospira platensis with PMMA as a base polymer. The composite is vital to fabricate the biomimetic nanofibers as it produces well-defined nanofibers and gives the nanofibers unique configurations for oil sorption. The properties of electrospun nanofibers were examined using FT-IR spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometer. Besides that, the properties of nanofibers were examined through thorough FESEM analysis. Better barrier and morphological properties were obtained for composite nanofibers than for pure polymer nanofibers. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd. %O cited By 0; Conference of 5th International Conference on Fundamental and Applied Sciences, ICFAS 2018 ; Conference Date: 13 August 2018 Through 15 August 2018; Conference Code:142772 %I Institute of Physics Publishing %K Biomimetics; Carbon nanotubes; Ecosystems; Esters; Functional polymers; Marine pollution; Oil spills; Yarn, Biomimetic nanofibers; Catastrophic consequences; Composite nanofibers; Electrospinning techniques; Electrospun nanofibers; FTIR spectroscopy; Morphological properties; X ray diffractometers, Nanofibers
