By applying spatial multiplexing it was possible to reduce the beat noise, which is the main limiting factor of performance in coherent source SAC OCDMA system, which will lead to high speed PONs. Results showed that at a data rate of 1.25 Gb/s, there was almost three order of magnitude improvement in performance when applying SM. Additionally, the fiber span was 55 Km for the same data rate and ten active optical network units (ONU). © 2016 IEEE. publisher: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. date: 2017 type: Conference or Workshop Item type: PeerReviewed identifier: Alhassan, A.M. and Saad, N.M. and Aljunid, S.A.
