This paper investigated the coordination process through selected articles from well-known academic journals. The articles were classified based on coordination process consideration; as a core issue of the study or appeared in the study results as a main factor. The aim of this paper is to review critically the literature for addressing the gap and presenting a research agenda of coordination process. The main findings are: (1) construction industry suffers from poor performance as a result of lack or insufficient coordination; (2) further research should focus on coordination as a core issue; and (3) coordination is one of the critical success factors in construction projects, and affect its performance significantly. Finally, coordination process still in the infancy stage in construction management and need more research to reap its dividends, using artificial intelligent, in order to enhance construction projects performance. © 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London. date: 2016 publisher: CRC Press/Balkema official_url: https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-85009751123&doi=10.1201%2fb21942-29&partnerID=40&md5=f14afeda1af0ed6c037a2dbcd4da3a10 id_number: 10.1201/b21942-29 full_text_status: none publication: Engineering Challenges for Sustainable Future - Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Civil, offshore and Environmental Engineering, ICCOEE 2016 pagerange: 149-154 refereed: TRUE isbn: 9781138029781 citation: Alaloul, W.S. and Liew, M.S. and Zawawi, N.A.
