This paper presents the used of FaultTree Method in qualitative modelling the bridge defect in terms of failure causes and mechanism that can be directly correlated with the proposed bridge management system namely as Bridge Integrity Management System (BIMs) bridge. The minimal cut sets of Fault tree was determined using Boolean algebra formulas which contains 20 double components of cut sets. The results of this qualitative analysis establish the probability expression of bridge defect which may provide guidance for future safety management for bridge failure. Further quantitative analysis will determine the ranges probabilities of bridge defect that will be used for the development of risk matrix. © 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London. %K Boolean algebra; Defects; Environmental engineering; Failure (mechanical); Probability; Reinforced concrete; Risk assessment; Safety engineering, Bridge management system; Concrete highway bridges; Integrity management system; Probability expressions; Probability of failure; Qualitative analysis; Qualitative modelling; Risk assessment tool, Fault tree analysis %P 457-462 %I CRC Press/Balkema %A W.S.
