Conventional bricks are created by clay with high temperature kiln firing. Topsoil removal and continuous excavation of clay causes substantial decimation and sustainability of original resources, also burning can evoke environmental matter. To address such problem, this paper presents possibility of interlocking bricks produced using supplementary cementitious materials and sawdust as byproduct, in terms properties and structural behavior. Sawdust combined with cementitious (fly ash and silica fume) can produce the sawdust interlocking bricks utilized as alternative building materials beside conventional bricks. Test results showed that mechanical properties of sawdust interlocking bricks meet ASTM requirements. In addition, structural behavior of prisms tested by using axial compression load has exhibited good performance in range pre-peak and post-peak region. Moreover, stress-strain behavior and failure modes analyzed using VecTor2 FEM is in good agreement with experimental results. © 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London. date: 2016 publisher: CRC Press/Balkema official_url: https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-85009831971&doi=10.1201%2fb21942-89&partnerID=40&md5=20c26e1c23781beb68219d9d384bbe2a id_number: 10.1201/b21942-89 full_text_status: none publication: Engineering Challenges for Sustainable Future - Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Civil, offshore and Environmental Engineering, ICCOEE 2016 pagerange: 437-442 refereed: TRUE isbn: 9781138029781 citation: Mohammed, B.S. and Aswin, M. and Vethamoorty (2016) Properties and structural behavior of sawdust interlocking bricks.
