Distributed generation (DG) in distribution system not only plunges the power losses but also it improves the system voltage quality. Optimal placement and sizing of DG in distribution system is still a challenging problem for exploiting the maximum benefits from it. In this paper a new method called as accelerated particle swarm optimization (APSO) is employed to minimize the total power loss of the system. The technique satisfies the power balance, bus voltage and system capacity as constraints. The method is tested for two different types of DG on standard IEEE 33 bus radial distribution system. The proposed method is found to be very effective for power loss reduction with fast convergence. © 2015 IEEE. date: 2015 publisher: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. official_url: https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-84964334523&doi=10.1109%2fCENCON.2015.7409538&partnerID=40&md5=3a576251c0cf4b6e443f9001a04c731a id_number: 10.1109/CENCON.2015.7409538 full_text_status: none publication: 2015 IEEE Conference on Energy Conversion, CENCON 2015 pagerange: 193-198 refereed: TRUE isbn: 9781479985982 citation: Mahesh, K. and Al Nallagownden, P. and Al Elamvazuthi, I.
