The empirical study determines the current practices of adoption of SPI and related problems. Six Malaysian software development SMEs were involved in the empirical study. The results of the study showed that the level of adoption of Software Process Improvement in Malaysian software development SMEs is still very much at the low level. Other organisational, software development and project issues were identified as contributing to the low level of SPI adoption in Malaysia. © 2015 IEEE. %K Computer software; Enterprise software; Industry; Process engineering; Software engineering, Capability maturity models; Current practices; Empirical studies; Small and medium enterprise; Small and medium software enterprise; Software development practices; Software Process Improvement; Software process improvements, Software design %D 2015 %R 10.1109/ICITCS.2015.7293018 %O cited By 11; Conference of 5th International Conference on IT Convergence and Security, ICITCS 2015 ; Conference Date: 24 August 2015 Through 27 August 2015; Conference Code:118426 %J 2015 5th International Conference on IT Convergence and Security, ICITCS 2015 - Proceedings %L scholars5671
