The main drawbacks of this method are that it requires mobilization of heavy equipments to the site, time consuming and expensive. Geophysical methods have been used for many years in soils characterizations as they are rapid, non-destructive and cost-effective. The aim of this research work is to use simple multimeter and few electrodes to acquire apparent resistivity values of subsurface soil and subsequently correlate it with SPT N-values of subsurface soil. This paper presents the preliminary results of an ongoing research on correlations of electrical resistivity with some physical properties of soil. In this part of the study, correlations of SPT values with electrical resistivity of soil were assessed. The obtained results demonstrate the possibility to use electrical resistivity survey as an alternative to standard penetration test SPT.
