The latest tragedy on 21 st May 2011 in Hulu Langat, Malaysia which claimed 16 lives has become an indicator that a capable real-time monitoring system is crucial in order to avoid this terrible incident from happening again. This paper describes the deployment of Wireless Sensor Network interfaced with suitable sensors for slope monitoring. The sensors include soil moisture sensor, pressure sensor and flexible bend sensor. The system is designed to collect the data from the sensors, transmit it to the base station, present the data with graphical representation and interprets it so that a suitable level of warning can be declared. Along with the prototype, a slope model has also been built to demonstrate the event of landslide. Results obtained from experiments conducted with the prototype and slope model show that several levels of warning can be issued in a timely manner depending on the severity of the slope's stability ranging from early warning to emergency warning. These warnings will enable appropriate actions to be taken in preventing the occurrences of catastrophic tragedies. © 2012 IEEE. date: 2012 official_url: https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-84867977161&doi=10.1109%2fICIAS.2012.6306203&partnerID=40&md5=571459215ec51d0cefdaf46efe28b962 id_number: 10.1109/ICIAS.2012.6306203 full_text_status: none publication: ICIAS 2012 - 2012 4th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems: A Conference of World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON) - Conference Proceedings volume: 1 place_of_pub: Kuala Lumpur pagerange: 285-290 refereed: TRUE isbn: 9781457719677 citation: Ali, N.A. and Drieberg, M. and Sebastian, P.
