These ionic liquids were characterised using FTIR-ATR and NMR in order to identify the molecular structures of these compounds. The physical properties of these compounds, namely refractive index and thermal properties were measured at room temperature and are reported herein. ILs incorporating cetylpyridinium cations show higher thermal stability and refractive index values as compared to Aliquat ILs due to the effects of the aromatic ring on the cetylpyridinium cation as well as the longer alkyl chain on the anion of DOSS. © 2012 American Institute of Physics. date: 2012 official_url: https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-84874119223&doi=10.1063%2f1.4757468&partnerID=40&md5=9f3f1e459a6eab2c54a31a605ba0c492 id_number: 10.1063/1.4757468 full_text_status: none publication: AIP Conference Proceedings volume: 1482 place_of_pub: Kuala Lumpur pagerange: 214-218 refereed: TRUE isbn: 9780735410947 issn: 0094243X citation: Wilfred, C.D. and Nair, G.D. and Ziyada, A.K.
