It generalizes the yes-no Boolean logic into numerical value of 1 and 0 but also permits the in between values. This paper presents the use of Fuzzy Logic to determine the unusual increase of vibrations of an induction motor called vibration analysis. Sudden increase of vibrations could be a good indicator of faulty condition of the motor. Based on the vibration characteristics of the motor, a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) was created. The system classified the motor of the gas distribution pump as 'acceptable' of the vibration ranges from 1.8mm/s to 4.5mm/s or 'monitor closely' of the vibration ranges from 4.5mm/s to 7.1mm/s respectively. The system enabled an early detection of faults which is very important in maintenance management. © 2012 American Institute of Physics. date: 2012 type: Conference or Workshop Item type: PeerReviewed identifier: Janier, J.B. and Zaim Zaharia, M.F.
