Many techniques have been introduced to minimize the torque ripple by determination of appropriate reference current profile so as to produce the desired torque as closely as possible. However, nonlinear characteristics of SRM have not made these techniques fully successful. In this paper, a new method is introduced for determination of reference current profile for torque ripple minimization. The method deals with an iterative approach for the modulation of the reference current by means of a multiplying factor. The multiplying factor is computed based on fuzzy logic which is well known to compensate for the nonlinearities of the system. Three different excitation schemes are studied in this work, i.e., one-phase-on scheme, basic two-phase-on scheme and two-phase-on scheme with torque sharing functions. For each schemes, both positive and negative torque generating phase currents are utilized simultaneously. The performance of the proposed method is verified by simulation studies. © 2011 CRL Publishing Ltd.
