Increasingly technologies such as Instant Messaging, and chat systems are being used for teaching. We present two novel communications-based learning systems, Mak-Messenger and Finger-Chat, specifically designed to assist in the teaching of signed languages to deaf and hearing students. By providing these examples of learning technologies specifically tailored to the deaf community, we hope to illustrate how advanced learning technologies may be used to address issues relating to the educational needs of the deaf. date: 2004 official_url: https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-13244267118&doi=10.1109%2fICALT.2004.1357643&partnerID=40&md5=030bcf2b32288168da836a1558d635b5 id_number: 10.1109/ICALT.2004.1357643 full_text_status: none publication: Proceedings - IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies, ICALT 2004 pagerange: 744 – 746 refereed: TRUE isbn: 0769521819; 978-076952181-7 citation: Ohene-Djan, James and Zimmer, Robert and Bassett-Cross, James and Mould, Andrew and Cosh, Ben (2004) Mak-messenger and finger-chat, communications technologies to assist in the teaching of signed languages to the deaf and hearing.
