"Context and implications of blood angiogenin level findings in healthy and breast cancer females of Malaysia"^^ . "Human angiogenin (ANG) is a potent inducer of neovascularization. In the adults it plays a role in normal tissue repair. There are indications that ANG is involved in angiogenesis in females associated with some forms of cancer, remodeling of reproductive organs after delivery and in the pathology during pregnancy. The late might have the implication of impaired development and health problems of newborns. However, precise role of ANG in these conditions is yet unknown. To reveal the roles of ANG as the biomarker of breast cancer occurrence in Malaysian female population, the expression of angiogenin in patients with primary breast carcinoma was evaluated using an immunoassay (ELISA). Our results suggest that elevated level of serum/plasma ANG is a favorable prognostic factor in primary breast carcinoma, which is consistent with its role in cancer cells growth. Surprisingly the level of ANG in health control group was found to be only about 20 of that of northland's female population. This finding suggests that special emphasis should be given to explore the origin of low angiogenin level in females of Malaysia; what might be the impact of this phenomenon on the health of women and young generation, and how such ANG deficiency could be corrected. © 2011 Springer-Verlag."^^ .
