By understanding the factors contributing to fatigue, employers can implement strategies to reduce the risk of incidents and improve safety for workers. This study aims to investigate the relationship between socio-demographical and job characteristics with fatigue among offshore workers in Malaysia. Data were collected by using the Occupational Fatigue Exhaustion Recovery (OFER) scale. Based on the results, the number of those who experienced acute fatigue was higher than those with chronic fatigue. Age was found to be significantly correlated with exhaustion recovery (r = 0.36, p < 0.05), where older participants recovered from fatigue better than younger participants. Overall, studying the relationship between socio-demographical and job characteristics and fatigue among offshore workers is crucial for improving workersâ health, safety, and well-being and the productivity and efficiency of offshore operations. By understanding the relationship between socio-demographics and job characteristics and fatigue, employers can make data-driven decisions about staffing, training, and other important issues that impact the well-being of offshore workers. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024. publisher: Springer date: 2024 type: Article type: PeerReviewed identifier: Al-Mekhlafi, A.-B.A. and Isha, A.S.N. and Hashim, A.S.
