"Carbon dioxide emissions are a growing concern that requires a solution that can set a new standard for higher selectivity toward CO2 sequestration while also providing a synergistic effect on overall processing. This chapter focuses on the use of adsorption as the means for natural gas sweetening technology. The adsorption process performs best at relatively high CO2 partial pressures, but its efficiency decreases at high temperatures of the feed gas stream. Selection of proper adsorbent material is another critical process based on many factors, which include: thermal stability of material, active sites, porosity and void spaces, and most importantly, the economic viability of the adsorbent. Metal organic framework has also gained certain attention with its peculiar properties and enhanced structural capability, making it a critically important player for adsorbent-based CO2 removal from natural gas. As a result, this chapter examines the various technological advances made for using various types of adsorbent and their ability to selectively remove CO2 and provide a synergistic effect to natural gas sweetening. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.
