description: Due to the increase in extensive disasters worldwide, stakeholders usually initiate reconstruction plans to control the effects of these disasters on the community and the environment; nevertheless, some difficulties would occur during the implementation of reconstruction projects based on capacity and resources. Post-disaster reconstruction (PDR) is a multifaceted and chaotic process that poses various challenges and issues. Diverse problems are associated with reconstruction projects, these include low quality, delayed schedule, and cost overrun due to different variables during implementation. Hence, this study reviews the recent findings on the reconstruction of housing projects in the wake of disasters within a developing construction industry. It focuses on the variables that influence PDR, highlighting the major challenges and limitations faced by the industry. Additionally, this study identifies key factors that play a significant character in the reconstruction processes. Finally, it provides insights into the research findings and suggestions for future studies on PDR projects. © 2024 AIP Publishing LLC.
