They are bulky, non-biodegradable, and provide a good breeding area for pests and vermin. In order to alleviate the adverse effects of scrap tires on the environment, it is vital to reuse them in producing other products. This paper discussed the basic properties of rubbercrete interlocking brick (RIB) produced using 10 crumb rubber (CR) from scrap tires and 56 fly ash (FA) as a partial replacement for fine aggregate and cement, respectively. The properties assessed following the appropriate standard procedures, including physical properties (initial rate of suction, thermal stability, dimensional stability, density) and mechanical properties (compressive and flexural strengths and modulus of elasticity), revealed that RIB is a medium-weight (1894 kg/m3) brick having good dimension stability, low thermal conductivity (0.729 W/mK), and resistant to efflorescence. The RIB has compressive strength and modulus of rupture of 15 MPa and 2.23 MPa, respectively, which are well within the recommended values by the relevant standards. It is concluded that the RIB is a strong yet lightweight alternative to regular masonry brick due to its desirable properties and its potential for contributing to solving the environmental problems associated with scrap tires and fly ash disposal. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd."^^ .
