TY - BOOK PB - Elsevier N2 - Our world, having seen unprecedented growth in societal needs being met in a fossil fuels-based economy, is now conscious of the need for sustainable development. Integration of renewable energy technologies while mitigating the negative impacts of power generation from fossil fuels require greater energy storage capacities. Thus, the development of cleaner and more efficient energy storage devices including batteries is very important. In this chapter, we intend to highlight progress on the landscape of research in batteries for electrochemical energy storage. In particular the recent contributions employing ionic liquids (ILs) based electrolytes have been reviewed with a focus on identifying the challenges for future studies. © 2023 Elsevier Inc.
