It is challenging to decrease the impact influence under different loading conditions, which maintains good structural damage resistance. This paper investigates the compressive characteristics of the spherical-roof contoured core (SRCC). The effect of varying the number of unit cells and wall thickness is involved. It was found that increasing the number of unit cells and the wall thickness of the core can significantly improve the compressive characteristics. It was observed that the initial peak load of the SRCC cores of 6 plies was 3.48, 3.71, and 3.90 times higher than the SRCC cores of 2 plies. It was exhibited that the fiber tensile and fiber compression damage mainly occurred around the spherical-roof core dome. It is highlighted that the spherical-roof contoured core has great potential to use in electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. © 2022, ASM International.
