It is important to remove sulfur compounds from fuel oil due to its environmental effects. These sulfur compounds release harmful sulfur oxide gas (SOx) when combusted in reaction with oxygen into the atmosphere. The conventional method for sulfur removal in the oil refineries is known as Hydrodesulfurization (HDS). Unfortunately, HDS requires operating conditions like high temperature and pressure for its process. Furthermore, this process is less effective in re-moving the organosulfur compounds present in fuel oil. This research focuses on a combination of EDS and ODS method using an oxidant, a photocatalyst to speed up the reaction, and eutectic-based ionic liquid (EIL) as the solvent. The photocatalyst used is a pre-reported catalyst, Cu-Fe/TiO2 and the EIL was synthesised by mixing choline chloride (ChCl) and alcohols. The alcohols used were butanediols with different positions of hydroxyl (OH) group, namely 1,2-butanediol, 1,3-butanediol and 1,4-butandiol. From the characterization analysis, ChCl:1,4-butanediol was observed as the ideal EIL based on its high density and viscosity. Further evaluation on the EIL for desulfurization process was carried out in a photo-reactor in the presence of photocatalyst Cu-Fe/TiO2 and H2O2. To measure the sulfur removal efficiency, the oil phase was analysed with HPLC. The optimum ratio of H2O2 to DBT and mass of catalyst for the reaction is found to be 2 and 0.010 g, respectively with ChCl-1,2-B as the ideal EIL. The ratio of 1:2 was obtained for the best ratio of model oil to EIL with 300 rpm as the optimum stirring speed. Thus, the highest removal efficiency of sulfur compound achieved was 78.9. © 2023 Author(s). %Z cited By 0; Conference of 2nd International Conference on Engineering and Industrial Technology, ICEIT 2021 in Conjunction with the Silpakorn International Conference on Total Art and Science, SICTAS 2021 ; Conference Date: 3 November 2021 Through 5 November 2021; Conference Code:192326
