Hence, in this paper, the researchers aim at reviewing and comparing the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology model (UTAUT) and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to determine which is the model is most suitable to study on the actual determinants of computer usage among educators. The review demonstrates the strength and the applicability of the UTAUT model as compared to the TAM model. As a result, the UTAUT model is selected to be used in this study. Moreover, little research has been conducted on this topic in Malaysia. This paper also proposes a modified conceptual model for UTAUT by adding in another determinant of behavioral intention in context of user acceptance of computer usage; Perceived Needs. Peceived Needs in this study will focus on the professional development needs of educators which revolve around using computers for motivating and upgrading oneself in the teaching professionalism. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) will be employed as the main method of analysis in the later stage of this research to study on the actual determinants of computer usage among educators in Malaysia. © 2011 IEEE. date: 2011 type: Conference or Workshop Item type: PeerReviewed identifier: Ling, L.W. and Downe, A.G. and Ahmad, W.F.W. and Lai, T.T.
