The synthesis of Solketal-acetone glycerol as a possible fuel additive is one of the most crucial glycerol recovery paths. State-of-the-art reviews on batch and continuous processes to produce Solketal and possible reaction mechanisms are presented. The design of reactors and catalysts is taken into consideration and the factors influencing the yield of the Solketal process are discussed in detail. Finally, conclusions with future recommendations are reported. The utility of glycerol for acetals and ketals is of current importance for scientists seeking to find the best working conditions by testing the different catalysts, reactants, temperatures, and reactor designs. © 2021 Wiley-VCH GmbH date: 2021 publisher: John Wiley and Sons Inc official_url: https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-85104970660&doi=10.1002%2fcben.202000015&partnerID=40&md5=22ca2f44c3d9967deba76ccf0deb604f id_number: 10.1002/cben.202000015 full_text_status: none publication: ChemBioEng Reviews volume: 8 number: 3 pagerange: 227-238 refereed: TRUE issn: 21969744 citation: Zahid, I. and Ayoub, M. and Abdullah, B.B. and Mukhtar, A. and Saqib, S. and Rafiq, S. and Ullah, S. and Al-Sehemi, A.G. and Farrukh, S. and Danish, M.
