Moreover, various microalgae have successfully removed high amount of organic pollutants from food processing wastewater prior discharging into the environment. Innovation of microalgae cultivating in food processing wastewater greatly reduced the cost of wastewater treatment compared to conventional approach in terms of lower carbon emissions, energy consumption, and chemical usage while producing microalgae biomass which can benefit low-cost fertilizer and bioplastic applications. The study on several microalgae species has all successfully grown on food waste hydrolysates showing high exponential growth rate and biomass production rich in proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and fatty acids. Multiple techniques have been implemented for the extraction of food wastes to be incorporate into the bioplastic production. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd N1 - cited By 73 TI - Advances in production of bioplastics by microalgae using food waste hydrolysate and wastewater: A review ID - scholars14203 KW - Algae; Carbohydrates; Energy utilization; Fatty acids; Food processing; Lipids; Microorganisms; Organic pollutants; Proteins; Wastewater treatment KW - Bio-plastics; Bio-valorization; Bioplastics production; Conventional approach; Emission energies; Food processing wastewater; Food waste; Low-carbon emissions; Microalgae cultivation; Valorisation KW - Extraction KW - fatty acid; organic fertilizer KW - food processing; food waste; hydrolysis; microalga; production system; wastewater treatment KW - agricultural land; artificial chromosome; biochemical oxygen demand; biomass production; bioremediation; carbon source; chemical oxygen demand; Chlorella sorokiniana; Chlorella vulgaris; controlled study; dairy wastewater; DNA modification; food processing; food waste; lipid storage; microalga; microbial degradation; microwave assisted extraction; nonhuman; organic food; protein content; reactor operation; Review; sludge thickening; solvent extraction; supercritical fluid extraction; ultrasound assisted extraction; waste water management; biomass; food; waste disposal; wastewater KW - Biomass; Food; Microalgae; Refuse Disposal; Waste Water AV - none ER -
