The 3D graphene was first grown on nickel foam followed by deposition of iron using electrochemical technique. The iron act as catalyst for the subsequent growth of carbon nanotubes (CNT). Scanning electron microscope analysis shows uniform dispersion of CNT throughout the 3D-graphene nanostructure. Raman spectrum shows formation of ordered sp2 graphitic carbon, in this case graphene and CNT. The presence of D-band at 1313 cm-1 indicates the presence of CNT. The contact angle of G-CNT shown improvement in hydrophobicity as compared to just bare graphene from 110° to 148°. This is mainly due to surface of bare graphene is significantly roughen by the presence of CNT. Furthermore, a simple oil absorption test on G-CNT shows excellent absorption capacity up to 51 times of its own weight. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd.
