Particularly, the equilibrium isotherms, kinetics, thermodynamics of boron adsorption onto a newly prepared chelating adsorbent obtained by radiation-induced grafting of glycidyl methacrylate onto electrospun poly(vinylidene fluoride) nanofibers followed by chemical treatment with N-methyl-D-glucamine were studied. The equilibrium data were fitted to the Langmuir, Freundlich and RedlichPeterson isotherms, whereas the kinetic data were tested with the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. The adsorption thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy change (G), enthalpy changes (H), and entropy changes (S) were also determined. The adsorption data were best represented by RedlichPeterson isotherm model, and the kinetics were well expressed by the pseudo-second-order model. The boron adsorption on the nanofibrous adsorbent occurred spontaneously on chemisorption basis and is governed by the film diffusion mechanism. The overall findings suggest that the newly prepared nanofibrous adsorbent have a strong potential for boron removal from aqueous solutions. © 2019 Desalination Publications.
