It is a thinly-bedded sand-shale sequence, characterized by an abundant occurrence of coal beds. The strong seismic response of these coal beds dominates the seismic signal and conceal the response of the other lithofacies. This interference caused by coal brings a lot of uncertainty to the seismic attribute analysis for facies and lithology prediction. A high-resolution seismic sedimentological analysis has been conducted on this interval in an abandoned field, Northern Malay basin. The aim is to image and interpret the reservoir architecture and hydrocarbon presence within the upper group E interval. The produced stratal slices from the RGB color composite volume provided high-resolution attribute maps for imaging the reservoir geomorphology and depositional architecture. It showed that the interval is dominated by stacked channels system, interpreted to be distributary channels in a delta plain setting. The derived elastic properties from the pre-stack inversion were very good discriminators between coal and other lithofacies. © 2018 SEG. publisher: Society of Exploration Geophysicists date: 2018 type: Conference or Workshop Item type: PeerReviewed identifier: Babikir, I.A.M. and Salim, A.M.A. and Ghosh, D.P.
