As deeper well is drilled, more problems and challenges are expected. The successful of drilling operation is highly dependent on properties of drilling fluids. As a way to operate drilling in challenging and extreme surroundings, nanotechnology with their unique properties is employed. Due to unique physicochemical, electrical, thermal, hydrodynamic properties and exceptional interaction potential of nanomaterials, nanoparticles are considered to be the most promising material of choice for smart fluid design for oil and gas field application. Throughout this paper, the effect of nano silver particle in improving a conventional water based drilling fluid was evaluated. Results showed that nano silver gave a significant improvement to the conventional water based drilling fluid in terms of its rheological properties and filtration test performance. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd. date: 2018 publisher: Institute of Physics Publishing official_url: https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-85050624206&doi=10.1088%2f1757-899X%2f358%2f1%2f012060&partnerID=40&md5=810fe8a96f2041007690e4494e93aa0f id_number: 10.1088/1757-899X/358/1/012060 full_text_status: none publication: IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering volume: 358 number: 1 refereed: TRUE issn: 17578981 citation: Husin, H. and Ahmad, N. and Jamil, N. and Chyuan, O.H. and Roslan, A.
