Abstract

Internet of Things (IoT) is a self-configuring and complex network that interconnects 'things' and has been widely applied towards improving the quality of life. One of the important application is environmental monitoring, which monitors the parameters of the quality of the environment, especially in campus. Although several works have addressed this issue, however, most of them are still lacking in terms of scalability and function of actuators. This paper proposes and describes the deployment of mesh-topology Wireless Sensor and Actuator Network in IoT for environmental monitoring application in the UTP campus. This system is scalable through incorporating multi-hop and multi-sink capabilities. The temperature and humidity sensors are used to measure the environmental conditions and the information is sent to the Cloud via wireless communication. Feedback is provided based on the data analysis of the collected data and will activate the actuator if required. This system allows the campus community to not only plan their activities as they are able to obtain the real-time data, but also be alerted in order to prevent from being exposed to any heat-related issues. © 2018 IEEE.
