This paper investigates the effect of ferrite material on energy transfer by considering a different number of ferrite bars and sizes for electric vehicle (EV) wireless charging application. There are five cases employed on the circular magnetic structure. Case 1 is a coupled coil without any ferrite material for benchmarking of the other four cases. Case 2 and 3 have the same total size of bars lied on the coils but different number of bars which are 12 and 14 bars, respectively. Case 4 and 5 have a similar number of bars as case 2 and 3, respectively, but the width of each bar was increased from 30 mm to 40 mm wide. All these cases are modelled in ANSYS Maxwell software where the flux densities are simulated and the energy transfers are analysed. The simulation results indicate the performance of case 3 with 14 ferrite bars and 30 mm wide for each bar is the best of all cases considering the utilization of ferrite bar and the amount of energy transferred. The analysis shows that the number of ferrite bar, its dimension and sizes have significant effect to the energy transferred in the wireless power system. © 2018 IEEE.
