Abstract

The fundamental parameters of a small monopole antenna were examined and how they are affected if high permittivity dielectric material is introduced to the structure, achieving a more compact and miniaturized antenna for mobile phone applications was also a part of the goal. The dielectric loading to the monopole patch antenna perturbed the fields within the patch as well as changes its permittivity, this in turn reduces the resonant frequency i.e. shifts the resonance towards the lower frequency band. This shift of frequency increases with the increase in permittivity and hence resulting into smaller size at lower frequencies. This configuration was developed for GSM 900MHz and 1800MHz. An extensive research was carried out to create an understanding about the structure and parametric disruption. A detailed characterization of the linearly polarized model was performed and effects of varying permittivity, size and shape were investigated.
