The ubiquity of wireless communication and growth in data rate are motivating researchers to explore new frequency spectrums. Wireless communication is highly dependent on the channel characteristics. Only the complete knowledge of channel properties can provide reliable communication. These characteristics are measured using an experimental setup, called channel sounder. The performance of channel sounder is not only dependent on its hardware capabilities but also on the sounding waveform. In this work, a new low Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) multicarrier sounding waveform using Chu sequence based phasing scheme is presented for wideband channel sounding. The performance of the proposed channel sounder is tested in a simulated environment. It is found that Chu phases produce crest factor of less than 3dB and accurate delay spread values. © 2017 IEEE.
