Abstract

Thermal Imaging is increasingly being used to study heat coming from the body using specialized infrared cameras that measures temperature. The aim of this study was to determine if skin temperature above the muscle was related to EMG signal of the muscle during certain functions. In this study, six subjects carried out arm movements such as wrist flexion-extension, hand close-open and forearm pronation-supination. The group of muscles that were studied is Extensor Capri Radialis, Flexor Capri Radialis, Palmaris Longus and Pronator Teres. The thermal images were recorded and the differences in arm temperature were analyzed. In this study the maximum difference between mean hand temperatures for a patient was close to 4 °C. © 2017 IEEE.
