Abstract

An automated wireless system for controlling feeder mechanisms for freshwater aqua farming is described Monitoring and controlling data are transmitted to central computer or personnel mobile by Short Messaging Service (SMS) via Global System for Mobile (GSM) communications technology. The system is referred as i-Feeder offers a reliable, quick and cheaper mode of monitoring and controlling feeding process on a collection of ponds situated at multiple locations in a farm. The proposed system is aimed to minimize the food wastage and usage of labour forces. Given as much food to fish will lead to over feed, poor water quality, affect fish mood and demand extra-load to mechanism such as aerator that is used in maintaining water quality. Feeding management is great successful if it is an automated feeding when the fish is hungry and stop when the fish is satiated. © 2009 WASET.ORG.
