Ultrasound medical imaging modality due to its non-invasive nature, real time imaging capability, portability, and high patient acceptability assists clinicians in diagnosis, therapy and planning of several physical ailments. Ultrasound Images suffer from lack of resolution and contrast, due to the speckle noise introduced in imaging process, and therefore, is considered to be operator dependent imaging modality. In this paper, adaptive contrast enhancement of ultrasound images is performed based on its statistical nature using the Rayleigh, Weibull, Uniform distributions for image enhancement. Two experienced radiologists are consulted for qualitative analysis of the enhanced images. Statistical and quantitative analyses of results obtained from radiologists assessments and enhanced images respectively are performed to evaluate the quality of enhancement. It was found that Rayleigh adapted image enhancement helps most in improving the diagnosis for Supraspinatus (SSP) tendon in Musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound.
