Abstract

Slurry bubble columns are gas-liquid-particle contactors with fine particles suspended by the action of gas sparging alone. Liquid is set into circulation, up along the axis and down along the walls, by the radial non uniformity in gas flow in the form of bubbles. Particles are entrained by the upflowing liquid and sediment along with downflowing liquid. Based on this mechanism, Entrainment-Sedimentation model is developed to explain the experimentally observed axial solid concentration profiles.
