Video Surveillance System is a popular security tool in all sorts of organizations. The output from all cameras could be displayed together in one screen in a matrix form. However, each surveillance video is usually too small to be watched clearly and it can be a problem to watch the enlarged screen of live video simultaneously. This paper presents a proof-of-concept in demonstrating that multi-touch interface system is useful in a video surveillance system when directly manipulating either live or recorded videos. A multi-touch interface system prototype for a video surveillance system is created to enable more than one user to perform moving, scaling and rotating on a surveillance video at the same time, especially during emergency time. A pilot study was conducted to test the prototype. The study findings reveal that users are able to visualize the output of the single and multiple video cameras and assist them in performing multi-touch interaction simultaneously. © 2012 IEEE.
