Abstract

Understanding the performance of complex systems over time can be achieved through reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) analysis. RAM analysis is required to achieve minimum failures or to increase mean time between failures (MTBF) and therefore, to plan maintainability requirements, optimize reliability and maximize system availability. This information is useful to the management in planning necessary actions so that the performance of the system can improved. This paper presents the application of RAM analysis in gas processing plant using the classical reliability block diagram (RBD) method with a Monte Carlo simulation engine. The model was validated against actual plant data as well as against expert opinions, resulting in acceptable simulation model. The simulation results proved to be helpful in analyzing the system performance; identifying critical equipment and thereby suitable maintenance policies/strategies can be adopted and practiced with the aim to improve the system performance.
