This study explored the suitability of using natural latex and plastic fibers in concrete production. Natural latex, plastic fibers alongside fine and coarse aggregates, and cement were the major raw materials used to produce concrete cubes (150�150�150mm) of 1:1.5:3 (cement:sand:granite) mix ratio. The natural latex was added in different percentages of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.5, and plastic fibers were added in percentages of 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8, both by weight of cement. The compressive strength of the concrete samples was determined after 3, 7, and 28 days of curing, and the microscale property of the hardened concrete was also examined using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction test. The results showed that the slump value increased to a certain percentage (natural latex: 1.0/plastic fibers: 0.4) and then reduced afterward. Also, the compressive strength on the concrete cubes increased up to 1.0/0.4 (rubber latex/plastic fiber) and subsequently reduced with an increase in the percentage of natural latex and plastic fiber. It was deduced that natural latex changes the chemical composition of concrete. The study concludes that 1.0 natural latex and 0.4 plastic fiber were the most appropriate for an enhanced property of concrete. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
