Electric vehicle (EV) is regarded as one of the solutions to support future sustainable mobility. However, when entering the market, EV has to compete with internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, which are already well-known in society. Therefore, it is essential to formulate policies to encourage the use of EV. This study attempts to identify variables affecting people's choices when buying an EV or ICE vehicle. In addition, the study also identifies the type of incentives that will likely encourage the use of EV through an online survey. The study reveals that the variables that are most important for the respondents are: purchase price, operation cost, spare parts availability, charging duration, charging method, and maintenance facility availability. Concerning incentives, the most preferred types are the subsidies for the home charging electricity fee, annual tax, public charging fee, and the purchase price. © 2024 American Institute of Physics Inc..
