Accumulation of heat inside the buildings is mainly caused by solar radiation, mostly from the roof and the outdoor hot weather.Life Green Wall (LGW) is a greenery system that acts as a solution to beat inside building heat accumulation in urban and rural islands. On the other hand, the roof's shedding thrashes the solar radiation impact on the interior thermal conditions. This study aims to design, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of the LGW and roof shedding on the thermal conditions inside a low-cost building through experimental investigation. Also, the energy consumption for air-conditioning was measured and evaluated. The case study was handled in the postgraduate office in the solar site at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS - Malaysia. The thermal conditions inside the office, before and after installing a set of PV panels on the roof and then with LGW were monitored, analyzed to compare to evaluate the influence of the rooftop shedding and LGW on the interior thermal conditions. The implementation of PV panels has reduced the power consumption by 9.7, which is about 3.42 kWh/day.LGW, on the sides of the building and the shedding, together, had brought down the energy consumption by almost 18.3.Results show that rooftop shedding and LGW on the sides led to significant improvement in the interior thermal conditions and considerable energy saving. © 2023, Institute of Technology PETRONAS Sdn Bhd.
