Abstract

Mobile application intervention has shown good capability in increasing adherence to medication by providing medication reminders and information. However, current studies showed inconsistent effects and limited evaluation of mobile intervention in improving medication adherence. Identifying the quality medication adherence applications based on the commercial apps available on the current operating platform is crucial to ensure the app's usefulness to the intended consumers. Several quality evaluations tools had been developed to determine the quality of the medication adherence app, however, most of the tools are executed by experts such as researchers, health care professionals, and mobile developers. Therefore, this paper proposes to explore the criteria of quality medication adherence application from the potential users� (patients) perspectives. This study explored potential quality criteria based on the existing literature. Potential users will be given a set of questionnaires based on the Medication Adherence Application Quality (MedAd-AppQ) tool. The finalized criteria of the quality medication adherence app will be determined based on the results from the survey. This study is conducted to provide insights into how the potential patients perceived quality medication adherence application. However, as this research targets to evaluate the medication adherence application developed for the use of patients, thus the app that is created for the health care professionals or clinicians may have different quality measurements based on their specifications. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
