Abstract

Tribology in manufacturing deals with friction and wear losses and lubrication failures. In this work, tribology in sustainable manufacturing is broadly analyzed under two categories: (i) friction and wear in sustainable manufacturing (additive manufacturing, laser-assisted manufacturing, metal working, powder metallurgy, casting, friction stir processing) and (ii) lubrication in sustainable manufacturing (biolubricants, nano-biolubricants, surface texturing, surface coating, minimum quantity lubrication, cryogenic machining). The recent advances in the literature on the reduction of friction and wear and enhancement of lubrication in sustainable manufacturing are analyzed. The design, methods, analysis, materials and processes with improved tribological properties are included. This review highlights the tribology of sustainable manufacturing resulting in lower product development time and cost, lesser energy consumption and minor environmental impact. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Jitendra Kumar Katiyar, T.
